Plugging into the Power/Putting on the Armor of God

TODAY'S VERSE "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power." Ephesians 6:10 (NIV)

TODAY'S THOUGHT There is no doubt, in this life we need to be strong! How many times are we gripped with uncertainty, fear and doubt? How often are we attacked by rouge thoughts that would take us captive and leave our souls barren? How weak can we get and still have more room for weakness? But today's passage says, "Finally, be strong." And would we try! But our strength just doesn't seem to be enough. That is why I rejoice in the rest of the passage. When we read the rest we see that we are not alone in this spiritual battle. No, the verse reads, "Finally be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power." What a difference a few words can make. We are to be strong, but not in our own power. Rather we are to lean upon the generosity of our Lord Jesus Christ and His mighty power. Today, take a few moments and meditate on what "His power" really means. Consider what it can do, think about your life and how different it would be if indeed God unleashed His power in it. This is what He offers. He says, "Come today and use my power. Don't try to do it on your own. Lean on me. I give you my power to use so come be strong in me."

I pondered over this devotional. POWER. What an incredibly strong word. (pardon the pun) GODS POWER. Big words. BIG MEANING. But no understanding. I know...it seems so obvious. God has power...power over the universe, power over the earth....POWER. But He wants to share His power with ME!? Seriously? Then I look up the rest of the passage. Whoa.
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

The battle is the Lords!!!!!!We choose Him, the author of SALVATION to lean upon and He stands up against this world! THAT is how we plug into THE POWER!!!!!

God Covers All the Bases

God is just so good. I'm saying that with such a burn in my heart this morning for Him. Why is He so good? He's the great I am, His mercies are fresh every morning, He wants us to call Him DADDY! He loves us so much He sent His Son to accept the punishment for OUR sins. He covers all the bases....When He sees you are under attack, He has you covered, He equips you for the fight, before you even know what's happening. He IS LOVE. He's a solid rock, and foundation of Truth that we can stand on and NOT waver EVER.He's WON the battle....the one we fight every day against the forces of the enemy. And, OH, that AMAZING GRACE. How SWEET the sound, that SAVED a WRETCH like ME. I once was sooo LOST, but now I am FOUND. Was BLIND, but now I SEE.
Oh, how I have sensed Him by my side these last few days. I was in a situation yesterday that tested my faith. It was a man. A human just like me that listened to the enemy whisper in his ear "you tell her that adoptin is foolish, that those people she wants to help are not worth saving. they're dirty....oh, and tell her that this is the holy spirit talking...that'll get her." It felt like getting kicked in the gut...but then.......Truth whispered in MY ear. Does this sound like Me? Go, read My Word....compare this to the Truth that is from My Heart....does this sound like Me?" Hah! The enemy was trying to come through the backdoor and he was EXPOSED! i LOVE when that happens! And the rest of the day God confirmed His Truth to me OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. Just so I wouldn't forget. GOD COVERS ALL THE BASES!

Amazing Grace

I am sitting here, after watching the movie "Amazing Grace", just about speechless. What an amazing movie. What an amazing message. And it's a true story.
James 2:14-16 says...14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if people claim to have faith but have no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? That is what the main character's journey was about. He found God. He was giddy with excitement and wanted to spend his life as a monk, praying and living his life in worshipful silence. But God had another plan....God opened his eyes to the pain and suffering of people in the world. And he used his faith to do good works. One quote from the movie has burned into my heart "Africa, your sufferings have arrested my heart...your sufferings, no tongue can express, no language impart". His heart was broken for the people of Africa and what they were suffering through the slave trade. But there is still suffering in Africa. There are almost SIX MILLION children that have lost their parents to AIDS, starvation and disease. And yet, so many of us turn a blind eye. I cannot be that person that wishes the suffering "go in peace; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical need" any longer. We MUST join the effort to help. We MUST see that faith, without works in DEAD!

God's still, small, pure, lovely, amazing, love filled voice has been whispering His will in my ears and to my heart. "See through my eyes....feel with my heart, for just a moment, what I feel for the helpless, the hopeless, the sick, the dieing....do something. Become part of the wave that is My Love. I have given you so much grace. Share that with someone who needs it. Hear the voices of these children that can't speak for themselves.

Deeper Still/ My Peristant God

TODAY'S VERSE "So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better." Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)

What a weekend I had. I attended the "Deeper Still" conference with Beth Moore, Kay Arthur, and Prisilla Shirer. What an incredible amount of Truth spoken this weekend. What passion these women had for the Word of God. What conviction I had to get off of my lazy behind and truly live the way I say I want to live. One of the speakers, I believe it was Kay, said that we need to be so full of God's truth, we spill it when we are bumped and bleed it if we are stabbed. It just HIT me so hard that I can have that same zeal for God that they had, I can KNOW THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE in a very intimate way, I can find my soul's only satisfaction, if I just open up His Word. Devotionals are great. But it's like a snack, when what I really need is a HEARTY MEAL. I want to know God, His character, His heart. And He gives us this through His words in HIS WORD THE BIBLE.
What is even more brilliant is know HE WANTS ME TO KNOW HIM!!!!! Check out the verse in this Ronald Ovitt this morning. He is persistent! He is out to have my heart. He WANTS ME TO KNOW HIM!
So...yesterday I prayed that He would help me through this journey, and asked "where do I start? His response? "THE BEGINNING". So I opened up my notebook and God's Word and I am journaling about all the things I learn about God's character as I read the Bible from front to back. I think I may blog this each week. After all what GIFTS OF JOY are the words of God Almighty!

There Is Gonna Be Six Of Us!

I am SO EXCITED to actually be able to say with confidence. WE ARE ADOPTING! We've been praying over the decision around a year, and have come to the conclusion we will be adding one more Murphy to the family. Layla, is the name God has laid upon our hearts. I don't believe it's by coincidence that it's origin is African, and means "dark beauty". Unless God intervenes, we will be applying to the Ethiopian program through our chosen adoption agency. We will be starting at the beginning of 2009, a time Scott felt was right. Until then, my heart is aching to be part of the relief effort for Ethiopia, so I am looking into connecting the charity focused women's group I am a part of, and Ethiopian Orphan Relief somehow. We are keeping it entirely in prayer. Anyway, I am SOOOO EXCITED! In a couple years Scott and I will have another daughter. Emily and her brothers will have another sister, EllaGrace will have a lifelong friend, and Layla will have a home, a family, and more love than she could have ever imagined. And it is ALL because of God's Great Glory and Love. Isn't He AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS the book (and the children's home in Ethiopia) that it was named for was something I ran across after this prayer "Lord, what does her face look like...where is Layla?" Cool,huh?
